MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — A man found dead in Riverside County is believed to be the lone suspect in the shooting deaths of two people and the wounding of a deputy during a subsequent shootout, authorities said.

The body found Wednesday morning in hilly terrain in the Pigeon Pass area of Moreno Valley has not yet been identified, but investigators believe there are no outstanding suspects, sheriff's officials said.

Gunfire erupted Tuesday at a Shell gas station, where a woman was killed while sitting at the wheel of an SUV, Deputy Armando Munoz said.

A short time later, a man was found shot to death at a home several miles away in the city of about 200,000 east of Los Angeles.

Officials said a deputy responding to an assault-with-a-deadly-weapon call was shot during an exchange of gunfire. He was treated at a hospital for what authorities described as minor wounds, and then released.

The suspect was armed with semi-automatic rifles and may have been wearing body armor, authorities said Tuesday.

Capt. Joel Ontiveros, who serves as the city's police chief, said late Tuesday that investigators believed the shooting deaths and the shootout with deputies were connected, but he gave no other details.
